Searching for a new role in a pandemic can be difficult enough – but if you’re lucky enough to find your dream position, there’s still always the interview to get through! We asked Joe Hampton, our new Senior Consultant here at Talent Drive for his top interview tips to help you nail that interview.
KNOW YOUR VALUE – Stay true to your original goals and don’t allow concern, worry, frustration or the panic of being unemployed/in a position you’re no longer happy with affect your decision making when looking for new roles. Continue moving towards something not moving further away from it!
PERSONAL BRAND – With hiring managers and recruiters using LinkedIn more so than ever, you must ensure your personal brand is on point. Make sure your profile is relevant to your audience, it’s succinct, it’s powerful and it’s insightful. Personalise your banner and get some recommendations from former colleagues or line managers added to your profile. Your LinkedIn profile is one of the first things prospective employers will look at!
THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX – It’s important that you follow the correct channels when applying for a new role but there is nothing wrong with trying to stand out from the crowd to support your application. Consider reaching out to the hiring manager with an intro message. Connect with current employees and try and get a referral. You could even consider a personal video – it’s about standing out from the rest.
STAY ACTIVE & AGILE – Don’t “put all of your eggs in one basket” or “wait and see how it goes” – this happens far more often than you would think. Remember the job isn’t yours until you’ve received and signed that all important contract. It’s good to have more than one option!
DON’T HIDE YOUR AVAILABILITY – This is even more important in this current market and is a positive thing. With signs of recovery, the prospect of being able to onboard a new member of staff into the business within a short space of time is very appealing. Businesses are looking for someone to make an instant impact!
