We are all adapting to a changing climate, but how can Procurement adapt and stay ahead of the curve?
Wiktoria recently pondered this question in response to this article – here’s her thoughts below!
As the status quo of cost savings and profit is challenged by an increased precedence of ESG in Procurement functions and supply chains, the European Council has put pressure on organisations to highlight the presence of deforestation in delivering common commodities.
I believe a key measure for sustainability in Procurement is due diligence – ensuring that all commodities are acquired sans negligence for their source, especially when the source involves deforestation. Sophie Morton, England Rugby’s Procurement & Supply Chain Lead and a recent guest on the Talent Talks podcast, has highlighted that sustainability is intrinsic to Procurement.
The European Council’s provisional agreement should be considered by Procurement functions sourcing commodities across the UK, as wood, soy, and cattle suppliers in the EU will all be affected.
I’m interested to see what our Procurement network think of this agreement – would a similar agreement for the UK increase supply chain transparency and sustainability or are other methods more effective?
