Are you looking to build your career in procurement within a fast-paced, purpose-driven organisation? We’re recruiting a Category Junior Buyer to support large-scale public sector food supply contracts, offering genuine progression and development opportunities.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience across end-to-end procurement while contributing to cost savings, supplier growth and service excellence.
Hybrid – 2 days per week in Surrey, Chester or Yorkshire
Up to £30,900 + annual bonus
The Role
As Category Junior Buyer, you’ll support the full procurement lifecycle across your assigned food categories. Working closely with the Category Lead and Buyers, you’ll help ensure all sourcing and category activities are delivered efficiently, compliantly and in line with public sector procurement regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting tendering and sourcing activities (including regulated public sector processes)
- Maintaining system and tracker accuracy across procurement platforms
- Supplier relationship management and performance monitoring
- Stakeholder engagement across operational and commercial teams
- Data analysis and reporting to drive insight and decision-making
- Range management and continuous improvement initiatives
- Supporting delivery of KPIs and cost-saving targets
This is a varied, commercially focused role with exposure to cross-functional teams and strategic supplier partnerships.

- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload independently
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical capability
- Confident communicator who can build strong working relationships
- Interest in procurement, category management or supply chain
- Ability to interpret and present data clearly for different audiences
- A proactive, team-focused approach with a drive to deliver value
Knowledge of public sector procurement regulations (PCR15/Procurement Act 2023) is beneficial but not essential as full training will be provided.
