An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Supply Chain Planner to join a leading food distribution business that supplies fresh produce and chilled goods to some of the UK’s most recognisable restaurant brands.
Working closely with the Head of Supply Chain, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of material planning to ensure optimal stock levels, high customer service standards, and minimal waste. This role plays a vital part in maintaining supply continuity across a fast-paced and dynamic operation.
Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: £33,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week + 1 in 4 Sundays (paid overtime)
Key Responsibilities
- Execute planning and forecasting strategies to support business needs.
- Maintain and manage stock levels in line with demand and operational targets.
- Raise timely purchase orders considering lead times, shelf life, forecasts, and MOQ.
- Source raw materials through approved suppliers only.
- Monitor and analyse demand changes, working with internal teams to reduce stock risk.
- Generate both short- and long-term reports to flag at-risk SKUs and materials.
- Respond to plan changes and assess impacts on packaging and raw material availability.
- Focus on waste reduction, shelf-life optimisation, and lead-time improvements.
- Escalate potential risks or issues promptly through appropriate channels.
- Maintain visibility on all inbound materials and delivery schedules.
- Liaise with internal teams including Procurement, Sales, Operations, Logistics, and Quality.
- Communicate directly with suppliers to ensure delivery accuracy and compliance.
- Support supplier onboarding with booking procedures and ongoing performance.
- Take part in daily planning and coordination meetings.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in supply chain planning or materials management.
- Strong analytical skills with a methodical, data-driven approach.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in planning tools and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- Proactive attitude with a continuous improvement mindset.
